Nintendo’s president, Shuntaro Furukawa, recently commented on the price hike for the Nintendo Switch 2 and his hopes to address the issue by bolstering the platform’s game lineup. During its latest financial earnings release, Nintendo revealed that it intends to raise the price of the Switch 2. Starting in September, Switch 2 consoles will cost an extra $50 in the United States. Markets in Asia are also being hit with an increase in the Nintendo Switch Online membership prices.
Nintendo executives are once again apologizing for the inconvenience that this may cause consumers. However, they also say they plan to load up the Switch 2 lineup to give players more value.
Nintendo Hopes New Switch 2 Games Offset Rising Console Costs
During a recent investor call, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa announced that the company will prepare a “robust” software lineup to overcome the pricing barrier. However, regarding the pricing barrier, he also stated that the new pricing doesn’t fully account for all cost increases.
“We sincerely apologize to our customers for the considerable inconvenience and trouble this will cause,” he said (as translated by Nintendo Patents Watch on Bluesky Social). “While we wanted to prioritize a wide adoption, it was challenging to bear the rising costs over a long period. The [new] pricing does not fully account for all cost increases.”
So what could be coming as part of the robust lineup? Well, there is a “new” Star Fox game on the way. It is an updated take on Star Fox 64, however. Players are patiently waiting for the expected Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake. Also, there has been no official word from Nintendo on when the next 3-D Mario will be released. Prominent leaker NateTheHate recently stated that gamers shouldn’t expect that title until 2027. Speaking of 2027, that is when the generation 10 Pokémon games, pokémon wind and Pokémon Waves, will be released.
Already released are strong games in the Donkey Kong series and Pokémon Pokopia. Pokopia has sold millions of copies so far. Third-party games such as Resident Evil Requiem are also bolstering the console’s lineup.
