Guerilla Games’ co-founder, Arjan Brussee, who also previously worked at Epic Games, is developing a new game engine that will compete with Unreal Engine and offer a European alternative. Brussee is currently back in the Netherlands and working on the engine he calls the “Immense Engine.” He proclaims that it will offer an alternative not just to American tech like Unreal Engine, but also to Chinese engines.
During his time at Epic Games, he served as the global director of product management for Unreal Engine. Now, he hopes to apply his decades of experience in game programming to this new venture.
Arjan Brussee Building Immense Engine, a European Unreal Alternative
Arjan Brussee spoke about his latest project with De Technoloog. He said that no one is currently building a European-hosted engine that complies with the region’s rules and regulations. He also said that he believes his engine can be used for other purposes beyond gaming, including 3D simulations for defense or logistics.
Perhaps most importantly, the Guerrilla co-founder sees an opportunity to create a game engine that fully integrates AI. He offered further comments on the rise of AI in software development.
“The rise of AI means that we need to approach the development of this kind of crucial software differently,” he said, “As an old hand with a vision of how things should work, I see opportunities there… If you are smart and know how to put a good framework of AI agents to work, you can do the work of ten or fifteen people.”
AI in gaming has been a hot topic lately. PlayStation executives recently spoke about how they see the technology shaping the future of their games. Read those comments at this link.
Insider Gaming will continue to monitor the story and report any updates on this new game engine as more information becomes available.
