Nintendo is holding back Switch 2 dev kits from free-to-play developers. That, at least, according to Strikerz CEO Eugene Nashilov.
During a briefing with the media attended by Football Gaming Zone, on Monday, Nashilov was asked about the studio’s free-to-play soccer title UFL coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. That question was met with an answer that seemed to place blame on Nintendo for it not being further along.
“Switch 2 version is not yet in development, but it will be,” Nashilov said. “As of right now, Nintendo is not very much actively giving development kits to free-to-play developers. That’s a global trend, and we’re a part of that. Once we have our hands on the new device and we start working with it, then, most likely, yes.”
Earlier this year, Nashilov said that the studio had placed an order for dev kits, but, as of now, those kits still haven’t been sent out. It’s not just Strikerz and free-to-play studios without them, either. The word going around at Gamescom was that many studios, including some major ones, still didn’t have them and Nintendo was pushing releasing on the original Switch with backward compatibility for the new system.
UFL is currently available for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game is also set to release on PC sometime in November or December 2025.
