A new Metroid game appears to be on the way. For quite some time, there have been rumors of a new 2D Metroid game being in development at Nintendo. Information about that game, however, has been scarce.
But now, thanks to documents uploaded to Brazil’s Ministry of Justice and Public Security platform, the existence of a new game has been confirmed.
Get Ravenous
According to the published document that was first found by Necrolipe, a new title called Metroid Ravenous has been rated by Brazil’s equivalent to the ESRB. The game was assigned a 12+ rating for violence and has been given a release window of 2026.
The document has since been removed from the site, but you can view it below.
It’s worth noting that we don’t know if Metroid Ravenous is that new rumored 2D game. However, we do know that a title with that name is coming. Nintendo has yet to confirm the existence of this new Metroid game. But if it’s truly planned for 2026, details on the game should be coming in rather short order, as we’re already over halfway through the year.
The last 2D Metroid game was 2021’s Metroid Dread. That game was also rated T for Teen by the ESRB for Animated Blood and Fantasy Violence.
