Development of the next Ghost Recon game isn’t going well. According to sources close to the game, many of those working on Project OVR are “bracing for impact” after management changes were recently implemented.
In a memo shared with Insider Gaming, Project OVR recently failed to meet internal Alpha objectives, leading to Ubisoft bringing in Bruno Galet as senior producer to lead the Project OVR team. In addition, VP of Production Jean-Baptiste Duval and VP of the Global Creative Office Julien Sansalone were brought in to be “more present on a day-to-day basis”, including being on the work floor.
Ubisoft did not return requests for comment ahead of publication.
Ghost Recon Developers Are Worried
As far as why the game seemingly missed its objectives, people who spoke under the condition that they not be named say that Ghost Recon has been plagued by “unrealistic deadlines and poor planning and management”.
During the review, alternative production plans were proposed, but the Ubisoft HQ team rejected them. Some within the company believe that the directors are doing what they want, as opposed to listening to HQ feedback on the game.

“If I were to receive this email on a production, it would generally mean things are in a bad way,” one source said.
Project OVR’s development and success are a priority for Ubisoft. The memo mentions as much, adding that the foundation of the game is “strong”.
Still, the recent changes have staff at Ubisoft, specifically within its Paris studio, concerned about where these changes lead.
Internally, there are rumors among employees that the game could face either a complete reboot or outright cancelation in favor of a different project if things don’t improve. There have already been what were said to be “silent layoffs” at the studio, and staff are expecting more layoffs to come in the near future.
