Netflix Developing Live-Action PUBG Series With Donald Glover

Netflix is developing a live-action PUBG series starring Donald Glover. He and Stephen Glover will write and executive produce the project. The brothers are best known for working together on FX’s “Atlanta.” They also worked together on the Amazon series Swarm, the musical Guava Island, and Amazon’s Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

Additionally, Variety reports Michael Schaefer of Neon TV will executive produce, along with Fam Udeorji for Gilga and Taeseok Jang and Sujin Lee for LV3H, Krafton’s entertainment division.

Major Gaming Franchises Continue to Transition to Film and TV

In 2026, major gaming franchises are moving beyond their own medium, and Netflix has become a key force behind that shift by turning games into cross-platform brands with wider cultural reach. Cyberpunk 2077, Tomb Raider, Castlevania, Sonic the Hedgehog, and more all have adaptations on the platform.

Netflix is developing an Assassin’s Creed series. Also, Blizzard Entertainment recently partnered with the streaming giant on an animated Diablo series, with future adaptations already teased.

Additionally, Nintendo has transitioned some of its pillar IP onto the big screen. Super Mario Bros. has been adapted into two animated movies since 2023. The most recent Mario movie, Super Mario Galaxy, features Donald Glover voicing Yoshi. Nintendo is bringing The Legend of Zelda to theaters next year with an original story, and live-action stars will bring the main cast of Hyrule’s tales to the big screen for the first time.

Other major adaptations include a Battlefield movie with Michael B. Jordan attached and an upcoming Call of Duty Modern Warfare film.
