Modern Warfare 4 has officially been announced by Infinity Ward, and the studio is already making it clear that authenticity will be a major focus. That commitment extends beyond the campaign and gameplay, as the developer has addressed how it plans to handle cosmetics and crossover content.
The topic has become increasingly important to Call of Duty fans over the years. While celebrity operators and pop culture collaborations have become commonplace across the franchise, many players feel they can clash with the grounded military setting that Modern Warfare is known for.
Infinity Ward Will Be ‘Transparent’ With Future Collabs
In a post on X, Infinity Ward outlined its approach to cosmetics and future collaborations:
Every aspect of Modern Warfare 4 is anchored in the game’s narrative. Every feature, every decision needs to feel authentic to what Modern Warfare is, and that includes cosmetics and collabs. We’re committed to keeping it grounded and transparent, and we want to hear from you on what you’d like to see in our game.
The biggest takeaway is Infinity Ward’s promise to keep cosmetics and collaborations “grounded,” while also encouraging community feedback. Many fans have responded positively, with requests for classic operators, military-themed cosmetics, and character skins from previous Modern Warfare titles.
That said, some players remain cautious. Similar promises have been made before, only for increasingly outlandish crossover skins to arrive later in a game’s lifecycle. Characters such as Snoop Dogg, Nikki Minaj and American Dad have become common examples of when collabs have clearly crossed the line—even if they’ve sold incredibly well.
Whether Modern Warfare 4 can stick to its vision remains to be seen, but Infinity Ward’s early messaging suggests the studio is aware of community concerns. The real test will come when the game’s first crossover collaborations are revealed, likely a few weeks after launch.
