Build a Rocket Boy, the developers behind the recently released MindsEye have reportedly begun a redundancy process following the game’s disastrous launch.
That’s according to IGN sources, who say that the studio could see over 100 employees affected during the redundancy process. Although the studio has not provided an exact figure, the redundancy number has been speculated upon due to a 45-day consultation process that begins on June 23.
According to UK law, the consultation process is triggered when an employer intends to lay off at least 100 employees, says IGN. Build a Rocket Boy currently has around 500 employees, 300 from the UK and another 200 overseas, says IGN. Build A Rocket Boy’s LinkedIn profile currently says that 448 people work for the company.
MindsEye’s Disastrous Launch
MindsEye released for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X, and PC on June 10 and became the worst-rated game in 2025. On Metacritic, MindsEye has secured a critic score of 43 (Generally Unfavorable). The user score sits at 2.4 out of 10.
Social media was flooded with videos and screenshots of the game’s bad performance and general bug issues, painting the game as a pre-alpha.
But no, the game was fully launched, and its issues prompted Build a Rocket Boy and MindsEye publisher IO Interactive to pull sponsored streams. In addition, the publisher notified the media that the codes were ‘extremely limited’ and could not be provided to many outlets.
That being said, it seems like the game hasn’t sold well, and now the developer is likely to have mass layoffs in the coming months.
For what this means for Build a Rocket Boy’s second game, Everywhere, which was intended to release in 2023 but has seen multiple delays, remains to be seen.
