Metro 2039, the next instalment in the post-apocalyptic first-person shooter franchise, has managed to secure a whopping one million wishlist spots in just two weeks. The game was unveiled midway through April, surfacing with an intense, political trailer that revealed the darkness of the upcoming title.
It’s set to drop this coming Winter, taking fans back to the dank metro tunnels of Moscow once again, more than seven years after the last major game, Metro Exodus, took players far away from them.
Metro 2039 Hits Major Milestone
In a post on social media, 4A Games unveiled the milestone, stating that Metro 2039 had secured one million wishlists in just two weeks:
We are blown away to reach this milestone so quickly after the reveal. Thank you for your incredible support, we cannot wait to invite you into the Metro this winter.
Metro 2039’s opening trailer was deeply frightening, promising a psychological horror of a title rooted in the franchise’s origins, which are almost two decades old. In the follow-up to the release trailer, the team at 4A Games revealed how real-world events in their home country of Ukraine had influenced the game’s direction.
That revelation came days after a massive 120 GB leak hit social media, uncovering a canceled build of Metro 2039 scrapped around four years ago. That was around the time that 4A Games pivoted to this new story, which reflects what they’ve had to endure these last few years.
Metro is an award-winning post-apocalyptic series that has always sat at the top of the table alongside the likes of Fallout and STALKER, and it typically takes a much more gritty and morbid approach to the end of the world.
The franchise’s creator, Dmitry Glukhovsky, recently went on record saying that Metro 2039 isn’t just a game, it’s an experience.
