The Metro space has been blowing up in the last day, thanks to two huge stories. First, it was claimed that Metro 4 (not the game’s confirmed title) will be revealed next week, putting an end to six years of assumptions and guesses from the community. Then, claims surfaced online that a massive 120 GB leak had uncovered a canned version of Metro 4, shelved four years ago.
Metro fans busied themselves digging through the reported leak, which was said to have contained more than 20 zipped files of content, including maps, dialogue, character models, and more.
Metro 4’s 120 GB Leak Surfaces On Social Media
In a post on Reddit, a user shared images of what was claimed to be Metro 4, taken from a version of the game that was canned by 4A Games in 2022. Per the post:
The game was about Hunter and took place from Jan 2033 to Dec 2034. It was fully open world, had a full crafting system with alt ammo types and more. You had an upgradeable NBC suit, and Khan and Bourbon were main characters too. There were rumours in different stations you could disprove such as alcohol numbing radiation and females wearing NBC suits shooting quicker than males.
The subreddit’s moderation team locked down the thread because it infringed on a rule preventing the sharing of pirated software, cracks, and torrents, as some users set about sharing links to the leaked content.
As the conversation unravelled, those digging into the alleged leak uncovered more ‘information’:
- The game would have been open across both the metro tunnels and the ‘overworld’
- Artyom would not have been a playable character, but would instead have been retired to the background of the universe
- It would have followed the path of the book, Metro 2034, fully reviving Hunter’s character
- Multiple factions and stations would have been discoverable, including Nazi and Red stations
- The bullet-based economy had been altered to a more barter-based economy
As with any leak of this nature, it’s important to take every aspect with a pinch of salt, especially as the Discord server sharing the content seems to have been locked down to prevent further sharing.
What we do know is that 4A Games has been developing Metro 4 (name TBC) since at least 2020, when the project was announced. That came just a year after the launch of Metro Exodus. Then, in 2023, Insider Gaming exclusively revealed that a fully playable version of Metro 4 was available, which would land after this version of the game was canned.
It’s not a huge stretch to assume that this leak is legitimate, especially as several screenshots have surfaced online and across social media, but it’s still important to stress that, if accurate, it was scrapped years ago.
It was recently claimed that Metro 4 should be revealed next week, so either way, we could have the truth of it soon enough.

They scraped a full game but then made Metro 4 again? I am a bit confused. They scraped the game in 2022 then started on the game again… and now it is ready for reveal 4 years later… I think that is what this article is saying. Makes sense time wise. Getting done in 4 to 5 years if they had some previous work to take from too. Games take way too long to make nowadays its crazy
