The Battle Bus has been a staple of Fortnite since the game’s battle royale inception, but no one thought the day would come when you could actually drive the Battle Bus in Fortnite.
For so long, the Battle Bus was a non-interactable mechanism to get you into a game of Fortnite. But it’s slowly become more involved as the years have gone by. We’ve been able to thank the Bus Driver for all their hard work, and then Epic decided to blow it up!
Now, it’s time for you to take control of the wheel.
How Do You Drive The Battle Bus In Fortnite?

The ability to drive the Battle Bus is an automatic selection made by Epic / Fortnite and is not something you can directly control, allowing one player to operate the bus. Or you can create a custom game.
Whether you get to drive the Battle Bus in a main lobby or not is completely out of your hands. It’s an RNG decision made by the game as you get ready to begin a new match. With lobbies usually exceeding 60, 70, and 80+ players, it means your odds of being selected to drive the Battle Bus are painfully slim.

Driving the Battle Bus was even addressed in the Chapter 7 Season 2 patch notes:
“This time YOU take the wheel. Every match one random player is chosen to drive the Battle Bus.”
If you’re really intent on driving the Battle Bus at least once, your best bet is to wait and see if you’re the lucky one; otherwise, pull out to the main menu and begin matchmaking all over again!
For a guaranteed method, create a custom lobby with just yourself in the game, and you can experience it with no questions asked.
How To Earn Free XP By Driving Battle Bus In Fortnite
Whoever is in control of the Battle Bus can guide the vehicle through special rings in the sky, and if you do, all players are rewarded with XP for every single ring that the bus drives through in Fortnite.
Fortnite is a special game, isn’t it? Before you enter a literal battle to the death with many other players, you first share a pre-game lobby where you don’t harm each other and usually spend the time goofing around, emoting, and dancing with other players.

If that wasn’t enough, most people generously thank the Bus Driver in an act of kindness, and now, literally seconds before you enter a mass conflict, one player can essentially gift the entire lobby free XP! Not only this, but each successful ring grants a Supply Drop during the game.
Again, check out the patch notes explaining this in more detail:
“If selected, steer through rings to grant everyone XP and spawn a Supply Drop at each ring’s coordinates. If you’re a passenger, don’t forget to thank your driver and tip them some extra XP! Tipping will show an emoji of your chosen Showdown team, so be generous with pride.”
Should the driver be temporarily AFK, then tensions will rise. This is a nice way to reward players for playing the game, and it’s a nice touch to extend driving the Battle Bus beyond a little novelty.
If the RNG Gods abandon you, you could very well play the entirety of Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2 without ever officially getting behind the wheel of the Battle Bus. If you do, let us know how you got on through the Insider Gaming Discord.
