During the Pikmin Day Direct stream, Shigeru Miyamoto debuted the first “Hello! Pikmin” animated short. Hello! Pikmin follows Nintendo Pictures’ “Close to You” short from October 2025. That short also featured Pikmin.
The first short featured a Red Pikmin trying to lift a baseball while avoiding a frog that wanted to swallow it whole. The clip was under a minute and ended with the Frog thinking it had caught the Pikmin, but the Red Pikmin escaped by hiding behind the baseball.
Hello! Pikmin Animated Shorts: Episode Schedule Explained
This was the first of the Hello! Pikmin shorts to be made available. Another one will be coming tomorrow, November 1. A third will be released later in November 2026. After these three, Shigeru Miyamoto and Fuka Koshiabi said Nintendo will release a new episode monthly. They will release these shorts on the Nintendo Today app and other social media platforms.
Shigeru Miyamoto loves the Pikmin. The first Pikmin game came out in 2001 and introduced red, blue, and yellow Pikmin variants. In fact, Miyamoto said these three Pikmin are the number one, making November 1 (11/1) officially Pikmin Day going forward.
Miyamoto has previously said he wants Pikmin included in everything Nintendo does. Pikmin made a brief cameo in the recent Super Mario Galaxy movie. Miyamoto credits Illumination with many of the cameos in that film.
No new games were announced during this first Pikmin Day Direct, which ran for less than 10 minutes. However, the event also shared new information about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 edition of Pikmin 4.
