Universal And Illumination Have a Mystery Nintendo Movie in Development

A new untitled Illumination Nintendo movie has been found listed for April 2028 release in Universal Spain’s release schedule.

We all know Nintendo has been doing really well in the movie department, and their partnership with Illumination and Universal has already brought two blockbuster movies. The first installment has already become the highest-grossing video game movie, and the second has earned $190 million in just 5 days at the US Box Office. Now, another one seems to be in the works.

Untitled Nintendo Movie Listed for 2028 Release by Universal Spain

Universal Pictures Spain’s release schedule from April 2026 to July 2030 has surfaced on r/GamingLeaksAndRumours and mentions an untitled Nintendo Illumination movie. On the second page of the PDF, players will find “UNTITLED ILLUMINATION/NINTENDO EVENT FILM (APRIL 2028)” marked for April 12, 2028. However, the listing is marked in red, which indicates a shift in the release schedule. However, we do know another Nintendo Illumination movie is on its way from Universal.

The fans in the comment section of the Reddit post have already started speculating on what this mystery Nintendo movie could be. Some think it’s definitely a Donkey Kong movie, while others have their eyes on Pikmin as well. There’s also a chance there could be a third installment or a spin-off in the Mario movie series. However, at the moment, nothing is officially confirmed, and seeing the release is still years away, it might be some time before we receive an official announcement from Nintendo.

In other news, Shigeru Miyamoto recently discussed his approach to Nintendo characters. Additionally, Final Fantasy 14 is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in Summer 2026.
