MADFINGER Games has hit a new development milestone, with Gray Zone Warfare officially transitioning from pre-alpha to alpha. The game’s content stack has also taken a step forward, and, according to the team, it now sits at 30% complete compared to the full vision for the game.
Given recent innovations and evolutions, that might seem remarkable. To be only 30% complete while having delivered immeasurable leaps forward like the 0.4 ‘Spearhead’ update and now the 0.5 ‘Rogue Ops’ update is incredible.
But, in case you were wondering, that’s the number – 30%.
Gray Zone Warfare is Moving Forward – and Every Move Matters
Gray Zone Warfare is getting a staggering update with 0.5, set to arrive in the coming weeks and introduce another gargantuan content drop. It’s called Rogue Ops, and it’s built around the endgame loop, passive earning, and heading on that inexorable journey towards Ground Zero.
Since launching in April 2024, Gray Zone Warfare has continued to impress fans everywhere. Earlier this year, the 0.4 update, Spearhead, dropped, pushing player counts up, driving positive review sentiments, and expanding the game like never before.
With Rogue Ops, players will be able to craft drug labs, run narcotics across the map, smuggle black market technology, and build a home away from home in Lamang, the game’s expansive sandbox world.

In promotional material showcased first behind closed doors at Gamescom, MADFINGER Games confirmed that the development pipeline is now at the 30% mark. That means that 70% of Gray Zone Warfare is still being kept under wraps.
Now, I know a thing or two about what’s coming down that very pipeline, but I’m sworn to secrecy! It’s no big secret that things are moving towards Ground Zero, the massive, mysterious red cloud in the middle of the tac-map. Before the game landed, something happened there to change the face of Lamang, and the notes, newspapers, and letters you can pick up from around the world hint at what that might have been.
For now, it’s all about 05. There’s a hell of a lot coming in this update, including a sweep of new weapons:
- G36
- FAMAS
- G3
- Benelli M4
- AUG
- UMP
- Glock 18C
There are 400+ new attachments and weapon parts, an optimization pass has been applied to existing weapons, and health systems are being made less complex. AI behaviour has been tweaked to allow for more ‘passive actions’ from NPCs like smoking cigarettes, chatting, hanging out, or talking on the phone, and those same AI enemies can now hurl grenades at you.
You’ll be able to run up to four characters at once, PvE and PvEvP are being fully separated, and when you boot up the Rogue Ops update, you’ll be prompted to pick a server type in an irrevocable move.
Unreal Engine 5.7 is here, lighting and clouds have been improved, anti-cheat is being bolstered, and there are drug huts popping up all over Lamang that you can take down and loot.
I said it’s a huge update, and this is just some of what’s inbound.
If you’ve never given Gray Zone Warfare a try, now might be the time. The 0.5 update is a hell of a thing, and it really is a toe in the water compared to what’s coming – and it all starts on October 22nd.
