Gray Zone Warfare Dev Team Secures Former Arma Creative Director Ivan Buchta

In a press release, the team at MADFINGER Games, the developer behind Gray Zone Warfare, revealed that their team has just been bolstered by the arrival of Ivan Buchta. This exciting addition to the squad driving the open-world tactical shooter will bring Buchta’s years of experience working primarily on the Arma franchise, as well as DayZ. Before he departed Bohemia Interactive, he was Arma’s creative director.

He’s joining the MADFINGER team as associate creative director, working within the leadership team to finesse Gray Zone Warfare’s sandbox experience and world-building mechanics. Earlier this year, the team at MADFINGER stressed how important the game’s non-linear sandbox model is, and with Buchta, that concept could go to the next level.

Shaping The Long-Term Direction

Ivan Buchta steps up to the creative direction plate at an important time for MADFINGER Games and Gray Zone Warfare. Earlier this year, the game’s 0.4 update dropped, turning heads worldwide and sending player counts skyrocketing as the full breadth of the patch was revealed.

It effectively made it Gray Zone Warfare 2.0

Buchta will not have any input on 0.5, the next major update for Gray Zone Warfare, but he’ll start delivering as soon as 0.6.

In a statement, MADFINGER Games’ CEO, Marek Rebas, said:

I am thrilled that Ivan has joined our team and am really looking forward to finally working together. Ivan brings decades of experience creating deep, military games, and his expertise is a natural fit for what we want Gray Zone Warfare to become. We’re very excited to have him on board.

With a similar sentiment, Buchta also offered a statement:

What attracted me to Gray Zone Warfare is the potential of the project and the ambition behind it.

The team has built a strong foundation for a tactical sandbox, with a world and systems that can be developed much further. I’m looking forward to bringing my experience to the team and helping shape where Gray Zone Warfare goes next.

There’s a lot in the pipeline for Gray Zone Warfare, and it all begins with 0.5, the next overhaul. We don’t know exactly what’s coming in that update, but we know MADFINGER is starting to look at hideout mechanics and a crafting system, neither of which exist at present.
