Former Tarkov Devs Reveal First Art For ‘Rush is Real’, a Grounded Asian Cyberpunk Game

Nomion Games has unveiled the first concept art for Rush is Real, the studio’s mysterious debut title that’s the brainchild of former Escape from Tarkov developers. We now have our first glimpse at this game and more information about what it’s shaping up to be.

Per a press release and an interview with the game’s new Art Director, ‘Space Meerkat’, Rush is Real is revealed as a true world in grounded Asian cyberpunk. It’s a title that combines Asian megacities and the heavy brutalism of Eastern Europe, which is a concept perfectly represented in this all-new concept art from the project.

Rush is Real’s Secret Mechanic Keeps Turning Heads

Space Meerkat, a digital 3D artist who shares incredible creations with an audience of more than 100,000 followers on Instagram, has signed up to lead the art direction of Rush is Real alongside the folks at Nomion Games.

In a new interview, he admitted that the ‘core mechanic’ propelling the entire project forward hooked him and encouraged him to get ‘immersed in the lore of Rush is Real’. The thing is, we don’t know what that mechanic is.

From previous materials, we know that it’s set to ‘redefine player motivation‘, and we also know it was compelling enough to get three prolific Escape from Tarkov developers to part ways with Battlestate Games and set up their own studio to make this game.

In an interview with the team at Nomion, Space Meerkat explained what he’s interested in bringing to the table:

The concept, mood, and lore of Rush is Real turned out to be very close to my own style and the kinds of worlds I like to create. Basically, it was a match.

It felt like the most natural step, because during the conversation with Jean and Dmitri, I realized that at Nomion, I could become part of a team where I would genuinely enjoy the work while at the same time be creating a world that feels truly close to me.

He described the art direction as ‘already very solid and confident’, and he explained that the design team has already assembled a ‘deeper vision’ of the game.

But his clear-cut description of the heart of the project gave us the best picture possible of what we’re getting from Nomion:

Rush is Real is a mix of cyberpunk and brutalism, a combination of Asian and Eastern European cultural signatures, with our own personal inspirations and visual sensibilities that we’ve been building throughout our lives added to it.

Space Meerkat said he’s planning trips to China and Russia this year to soak up more inspiration to pour into the project. For now, we just know that it’s shaping up to be a near-future shooter with a stunning cinematic palette. If you want some idea as to what Space Meerkat creates, here’s an Instagram post:

In addition to the news regarding Space Meerkat and the new concept art, Nomion Games also uncovered a new logo for Rush is Real. They explained that the first logo offered a secret about their game, but I’m not able to figure out what was! Here’s the logo:

For now, Rush is Real is being kept under wraps, but this is a very important step in the right direction.
