CD Projekt Red has confirmed that The Witcher 3: Remastered’s PC performance is dropping due to NVIDIA Hairworks.
The Witcher 3: Remastered has been released and is off to a strong start, breaking all previous player-peak records due to the new update. However, not everything is going smoothly; many players have reported performance issues on PC. Fortunately, it appears that the developers may have identified the problem.
Witcher 3 Remastered’s Hair Simulation is Causing Performance Issues on PC
A new post on X (formerly Twitter) by the official CD Projekt Red Support account reveals that Witcher 3 Remastered’s PC performance is tanking due to an issue related to NVIDIA Hairworks. The developers have advised players to disable the setting while they work on resolving the problem. For those unaware, NVIDIA Hairworks is a graphics technology that simulates and renders realistic fur/hair for an even more immersive experience.
Another post from the same account suggests that prominent visual glitches and severe performance drops could be resolved with the latest graphics drivers: 617.14 for NVIDIA, 26.9.2 for AMD, and 32.0.101.8993 for Intel.

However, it seems the performance issues aren’t limited to PC users; players on other platforms also seem to be affected. Several players in the comment section have spoken about issues on the PS5 with FPS drops, lag, crashes, and more. However, the developers have yet to discuss any console issues.
