Some unlucky fans waited hours in line at Gamestop, just for their Nintendo Switch 2 screens to be damaged by receipts stapled to the box.
In an ode to classic console release days, GameStop hosted midnight launch parties in the United States for the Nintendo Switch 2. Doors opened at 3 PM local time on June 4, and some fans waited in line until pickups started at midnight.
Nintendo is reportedly anticipating retailers to sell out of units at launch, so the fans who waited in line at GameStop figured they would be safe and not have to worry about scrambling to find a system. However, what they didn’t expect were holes in their screens.
GameStop Accused of Damaging Switch 2 Screens
Frustrated Switch 2 owners took to social media platforms, such as X, and voiced their complaints about damaged Nintendo Switch 2 screens because GameStop had stapled the receipt to the box, which punctured the screen. (Credit to IGN for spotting)
X user, Rudeboy, shared, “My switch 2 has staple holes in the screen. They stapled the receipt to the box.”
They weren’t the only ones, as a second X user posted images with proof that their screen had staple holes because of the receipt on the box.
These are just two examples, and other owners are likely to have experienced the same issue. Nintendo and GameStop have not responded to the incidents. It also remains to be seen if owners will get a refund for the damaged system if they didn’t purchase the warranty.
In other Nintendo news, some users are having issues downloading Mario Kart World, Fortnite teased a Kirby collab, and No Man’s Sky is releasing for the Switch 2 at launch.
