The Nintendo Switch 2 console is now available globally, along with Mario Kart World, but some players have encountered issues that mean the title won’t download.
Releasing over a decade since the last entry in the series, Mario Kart World features open-world exploration, a roster stacked with iconic characters, and harnesses the power of the Switch 2, but problems have occured.
Players around the world are reporting that Mario Kart World won’t download, with the issue being identified. We’ve explained everything below.
What is the Mario Kart World Download Issue?

The Mario Kart World download problem is showing ‘Error Code: 2813-0171’ to certain users, informing them the product hasn’t been released yet and to try again on or after the release date.
The error shows despite Mario Kart World releasing on June 5, the same day as the Switch 2, so it is clearly a system problem—potentially caused by the number of players trying to download the software at the same time.
With more and more players around the world getting their hands on Switch 2 and Mario Kart World over the next few days, problems may continue if it is due to overloaded servers and Nintendo may need to find a fix.
This problem isn’t affecting everyone, however, and it seems the cause has been identified.
What’s Causing the Mario Kart World Won’t Download Issue?
The problem with downloading Mario Kart World appears to be tied to console bundles offered by Nintendo that include a copy of the game.
From our research, there appears to be two types of this version; one featuring Mario Kart World on the box art, while the other has a sticker advertising Mario Kart World’s inclusion.
The installation issue is tied to the edition with Mario Kart World on the box art of the console, as this version has a copy of the game pre-redeemed on the console.
Those with the sticker version, meanwhile, have a card within the bundle that includes a download code, which lets players secure the game with no issues.
In the United States, players who purchased the bundle from BestBuy appear to have no issues and have the sticker version, while those who purchased from GameStop have encountered problems.
However, players in New Zealand have also reported the same issues, so it seems to be a global problem that isn’t confimed to the US.
