The first footage for the Nintendo Switch 2 update for Pokémon Scarlet & Violet update has showcased crisp gameplay at 60fps, fixing one of the title’s biggest issues.
First released in November 2022, Pokémon Scarlet & Violet is the first fully open-world title in the franchise, expanding upon the feature introduced in Sword & Shield and Legends: Arceus, but there were huge teething problems.
Stuttering and gameplay performance issues were one of the biggest setbacks to plague Pokémon Scarlet & Violet at launch, particularly in areas densely populated by Pokémon—particularly Casseroya Lake.
Footage shown on the Nintendo Today! app, which was shared by Serebii on X, for the Nintendo Switch 2 free update for Pokémon Scarlet & Violet indicates that these issues have seemingly been eliminated, though, with smooth gameplay at 60fps.
Though the update comes as the game edges towards its three-year anniversary, with many players’ adventures in the Paldea region already completed, it’s a positive sign ahead of the release of Legends: Z-A.

What Else Is Coming This Year?
Releasing October 16, on both the original Nintendo Switch and the Switch 2, Legends: Z-A will be the first Pokémon title to release on Switch 2 and potentially the last on the original Switch.
Further details on Legends: Z-A and other upcoming releases in the franchise will be showcased in July’s Pokémon Presents, kicking off a busy period for the franchise with the World Championships in Anaheim taking place in August.
Legends: Z-A’s release in October could be followed by other spin-off titles, taking us into 2026, a year where the franchise celebrates its 30th anniversary.
