Minecraft ‘Chase The Skies’ Update Revealed, Release Date Unclear

The Minecraft team has revealed that the next major game drop for Minecraft is called Chase the Skies. It’s the update that’ll introduce the Happy Ghast to Minecraft, along with various other additions and improvements. This overhaul was teased back in March, and although it now has a name, it still doesn’t have a release date.

Those waiting for the Happy Ghast to arrive in Minecraft will need to wait a little longer.

Take to the Skies

In a blog post on the Minecraft website, the Chase the Skies update was detailed in full. While we knew about most of the elements coming in the update, it’s nice to see that the release has progressed far enough to have an official name.

At the top of the table with the Chase the Skies update sits the Happy Ghast entity, a flying mount that players can find, nurture, and travel around the world on with friends.

I recently put together a guide on how to find a Happy Ghast in Minecraft – when it’s out, of course.

Also revealed in the blog post is the new player locator bar, which will make it easier to find friends when you’re playing together, unless they’re crouching and trying to hide from you.

Mojang is also adding leads that you can use to leash animals and have them follow you around. The potential for this element sounds great:

You might think leads are an odd thing to pop in your suitcase bundle, but with the new leads and leashing functionality coming as part of the Chase the Skies drop, you’ll want to make sure you have plenty at hand!

Not only has the crafting recipe become simpler for leads (now you only need string,) but you can leash almost anything to anything!

Leash multiple mobs together to create your very own caravan of camels to join you on your desert vacation or leash entities like boats beneath your happy ghast to create your very own luggage compartment!

The Chase the Skies update will also introduce new music and the Vibrant Horizons visual refresh. This has been a long time coming, and it’s set to massively alter how Minecraft looks, provided you turn it on.

What are you most looking forward to in the Chase the Skies update? Let me know on the Insider Gaming forum.
