Gamescom executives have commented on the force of nature that Grand Theft Auto 6 is in this year’s release calendar and whether they worry that Netflix’s extended look at the upcoming title will pull viewers away from events in Germany.
Plenty of eyes will be on Gamescom this coming week, as numerous major titles set for release in the near future will be featured at the event. However, during the festivities in Germany, Netflix is providing an extended look at the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6 release.
The streaming platform will have a 6-hour window of exclusivity before the extended look is made available on YouTube.
GTA 6 May Take Attention, But Gamescom Isn’t Concerned

In a recent interview with GamesRadar+, two Gamescom directors commented on the hype around GTA 6 and explained why they aren’t too worried about the Netflix event drawing attention away from Gamescom for an extended period.
“At events like Gamescom, not only can you experience one game, but thousands of games, or at least hundreds. And this is the important difference. Of course, GTA will take some visibility and awareness from the digital Gamescom. But I believe that quickly, people will come back to Gamescom once they have seen the GTA content, because there are so many things, so many world premieres, so much new stuff to see, to experience. Hundreds of studios and companies,” said Stefan Heikhaus, brand director.
He also said that while many gamers focus on GTA, others are interested in many different games rather than just the one juggernaut.
Of course, GTA 6 has been the target of a massive series of leaks this week. However, that hasn’t deterred Rockstar from its current marketing strategy.
