Fallout 76 is an outlet for some of the most creative base builders in the business. Through the in-game ‘C.A.M.P.’ building menu, players can lean on a wide variety of constructs, prefabs, details, and decorations to create the post-apocalyptic survival hub of their dreams.
Recently, I stumbled across one Fallout 76 player who is going a step beyond simply building a base. On social media, I found clips from a user who is employing the C.A.M.P. (and Shelter) build modes to create jaw-dropping anamorphic art.
A New Perspective
Last year, Bethesda Game Studios gave more weight to interesting C.A.M.P. builds, giving users a way to make specific builds based on themes and have other players vote on them to have them showcased more prolifically. The studio regularly holds C.A.M.P. competitions, challenging users to build unique or intriguing C.A.M.P.s based on prompts.
I’ve always marvelled at the creativity of some Fallout 76 players, but James Wang takes the cake – or perhaps the Perfectly Preserved Pie.
Recently, James Wang, who goes by ‘JamesTwoSheep’ on Twitter, uploaded a 30-second clip of mind-bending anamorphic art in his Fallout 76 Shelter. From one perspective, it looks like he has assembled a jumble of floating detritus with no real purpose. When viewed from the right angle, the assortment of items takes shape as Vault Boy, the iconic Fallout mascot.
It doesn’t end there, though. This is a multi-perspective piece of art. As James moves to the other end of the room, the art takes on a second form, showcasing the same Vault Boy model with a different emotion.
After some thought, I’ve decided to start posting on here again because there’s still a big #Fallout76 camp building community here that I don’t get to see anywhere else. That said, this is the latest mess that I made.
This isn’t the first time James has done this, either. In May 2024, he uploaded a clip of a Shelter build that, when viewed from a specific angle, revealed anamorphic artwork of Marilyn Monroe. For more than a year, James Wang has been using the tools that Bethesda Game Studios has given him to make incredible art in Fallout 76, and I’m now here for all of it.
