EA Promises A New Open-World Experience For Its Football Games

EA Sports is working on something new for its football fans.

In its memo to staff, and then fans, on Wednesday regarding the company’s future, Electronic Arts spoke about its continued effort with sports games. They said that EA Sports “continues to operate from a position of strength” and that it’s “fully committed and investing in the global growth of our FC franchise and across the full EA SPORTS portfolio”.

They then quickly spoke about two new projects under EA Sports. One is the return of Fight Night, which was announced on Tuesday. The other involves its American Football teams.

According to EA, a “brand-new, social-first open-world experience” is currently in development. No other details were given other than it goes by the name “Project Gridiron”.

It’s understood that Project Gridiron has been in the works for a few years at this point. It’s been worked on alongside the development of “The Grounds” mode that made its way to EA Sports FC 27 this year. The plan was always to introduce a social hub, similar to NBA 2K’s “The City”, in FC first before moving it into other EA Sports titles.

What it’s not, at least at this stage, is another full major football game. EA specifically uses the term “experience” in their wording, which could signal it being an add-on. Maybe a mobile companion?

It remains to be seen when EA plans on fully introducing Project Gridiron, but it doesn’t appear to be too far away.

What do you think this new social experience from EA Sports could be, and will it eventually become a standalone game? Let us know down in the comments and in the official Insider Gaming Discord.
