The news recently broke that Electronic Arts, the iconic and tenured publisher and developer, is making layoffs that impact around three percent of the company’s entire employee base, equaling some 400 people. This wave has also brought to an end more than thirty years of BioWare, with the studio confirming that it will shut down.
In a report, it was stated what’s safe from Electronic Arts’ house-clearing activities, and one important franchise that will go untouched is Battlefield. Recently, Insider Gaming reported that the next Battlefield game is in early development.
Battlefield Avoids Destruction
As BioWare closes down after decades in the business, Electronic Arts lays off 400 employees, and a Sims game is cancelled, the industry has taken to social media to express their widespread dismay. Dragon Age and Mass Effect might never resurface, and projects that were never even revealed have been scattered to the wind.
In a report from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, it was stated that ‘the company … plans to continue the Battlefield franchise.’
Additionally, Respawn Entertainment and DICE, the lead creative and developmental minds behind the Battlefield series, are working on a new Battlefront game, almost a decade after the last one hit the market.
It has now been over a year since Battlefield 6, the most recent game in the series, was released. It flew up the charts when it dropped but quickly hit rocky ground and has been trying to keep the wheels turning since. Recently, the game’s fifth multiplayer season was released, introducing some new maps, weapons, modes, cosmetics, and quality-of-life features.
