A new report has arrived revealing layoffs and project cancellations at EA, and one of these projects was supposed to be from the Sims franchise.
For those unaware, EA has just announced that it will be shutting down BioWare and laying off around 400 people across the company. This also means their upcoming Mass Effect title has been canceled. It appears that wasn’t the only game affected, as something called ‘Project Lotus’ was canceled too.
EA’s Canceled Game from Sims Franchise was Codenamed ‘Project Lotus’
A recent report by Bloomberg details a canceled game in the Sims franchise from EA. In a letter to staff, EA announced the cancellation of “Project Lotus,” which was in development for the Sims series. Instead, the company plans to focus on a different initiative called “Project Evergreen.” Additionally, the development of another game, Skate, will continue, but the team working on it will be downsized.

Not all games under EA’s umbrella are affected. The letter confirms that EA will continue to develop its sports titles, meaning series like EA Sports FC 27 will remain active. Additionally, their online shooter Apex Legends, as well as upcoming action-adventure games such as the next installment in the Star Wars Jedi series and the Iron Man game from Motive, will not be affected. The Battlefield series will also continue, and Respawn and DICE appear to be collaborating on a new project as well.
