Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) is just under a month away, but the game is already on its way to making record profits.
According to analytics firm Sensor Tower, GTA 6 has generated well over $600 million in revenue just from preorders alone. Even pre-sales of the game have surpassed what many AAA games will do in their lifetime.
An Historic Launch Is Coming
In its latest data tracking GTA 6 sales, Sensor Tower reports that 6.45 million copies of the game have already been sold. The volume of games has resulted in $630 million in revenue before the game even releases.
As far as a breakdown of sales, 74% of pre-orders have been on PlayStation 5 (PS5). With the PS5 having outsold the Xbox Series consoles by a roughly 3-to-1 margin, the disparity in pre-orders makes sense in this situation. Either way, the game is selling remarkably well on both platforms.
On PlayStation, it’s generated $468 million on 4.8 million sales, while Xbox has pulled in $162 million for 1.66 million copies. As the game’s release approaches, it’s anticipated that those numbers will skyrocket. GTA 6 pre-load is set to begin on November 12, a week before the game’s launch, which could see another spike in purchases.
Regarding just how well GTA 6 is expected to do, another analytics firm, Newzoo, estimates that the game could generate sales of up to $5.2 billion during its launch week alone.
