OpTic Texas just went back-to-back at COD Champs, marking history as the first organisation to achieve that feat. In the Grand Final against Vancouver Surge, emotions were running wild, and the action was intense, and in the closing seconds of the final round of Hardpoint, the roof was blown off the place.
I caught up with the team after the monumental win, asking some critical questions about the season that the team now prepares to move on from. In particular, I asked Dashy how it felt to have worked so hard for the first ring and now to have landed another just 12 months later.
Here’s the full video interview:
‘I’m Really Fortunate’
It took Dashy a few years of incredibly hard work to secure his first ring under the OpTic Texas banner, and as he won last year’s COD Champs, it became clear how much it meant to him as a player. Now, just 12 months later, he has won another ring, decimating all comers at COD Champs to secure the trophy alongside Mercules, Shotzzy, and Huke in Canada.
I asked him what it felt like to have achieved this historic accolade:
It doesn’t even sound real, to be honest… Especially with how this year has gone. I’m just really grateful for everyone that’s involved that’s helping the team, whether it’s the fans, whether it’s the coaching staff that does a really good job, or the players that make the game insanely easy for me.
I’m just really grateful to be in the situation that I’m in. I feel like I’m really fortunate, because I feel like anyone – well, not anyone, but a decent amount of ARs could spawn in and look really good with these guys, so I’m just really happy to be on this team.
It has been a rocky season for OpTic Texas, but as Shotzzy put it earlier this week, a Champs win washes away the bad juju that the team accumulated in the last few months.
