OpTic Texas just lifted the Call of Duty League Championship trophy for the second time inside a year, a feat that no other organisation has ever managed to accomplish. I was fortunate enough to catch up with the team behind the stage after the win, talking about their season and what led to this monumental run at COD Champs.
I zeroed in on Shotzzy, and asked him where he thinks he stands in the ‘GOAT FPS esports player’ debate, which has accelerated now that he has won back-to-back COD Champs rings.
Here’s the full video interview:
‘Keep Doing Me’
Shotzzy was instrumental in delivering OpTic Texas yet another championship win in the Call of Duty League. Last year, the team (with a different makeup) stormed to success in Texas, and this year, a win in Canada ensured the organisation set a record that likely won’t be broken for some time – if ever.
Given that Shotzzy is one of just two players on Earth with a ring in two separate franchises (Halo and Call of Duty), he is the youngest COD player to secure three rings, and he has gone back-to-back for the first time in history, many are now dubbing him the unequivocal GOAT.
Staying relatively humble, this is what Shotzzy said:
I mean, I don’t really where I stand even before this ring, but surely I’m in the top ten, right?
It depends who you ask. I don’t really care. I don’t give a f***, I’m gonna keep doing me.
The performance of OpTic Texas at COD Champs this season was phenomenal, and the team’s upper bracket run, which saw them refuse to drop a map until meeting Vancouver Surge in the Grand Final, will go down in history.
Now, we look to the Esports World Cup and whatever comes next with Black Ops 7.
