GameSir, a manufacturer of popular, pro-themed controllers, has addressed a recent claim that their devices have ‘built-in cheats’, which is preventing them from gaining ground in some competitive circles. Most prominently, the Call of Duty League’s pro players have considered a GA (gentlemen’s agreement) against these controllers, rendering them prohibited in the space.
Many believe this is because most of these teams are sponsored or equipped by the likes of Scuf or Battle Beaver, but it’s also because GameSir’s controllers have often borne the brunt of scrutiny from the anti-cheat crowd.
Are GameSir Controllers Classified as Cheating?
I’ve reviewed many a GameSir controller here at Insider Gaming, and I’ve always found them to be very capable, well-built controllers that offer a lot of bells and whistles. It’s easy to see why a controller-exclusive esports circuit like the Call of Duty League might lean on GameSir as a cheaper alternative to Scuf or Battle Beaver, but recent discourse has suggested that won’t ever happen.
In a statement, the folks at GameSir addressed recent ‘allegations’:
It has come to our attention that several CDL pros are considering a GA against GameSir controllers, suspecting our controllers include built-in cheats.
We want to state clearly: GameSir controllers are 100% legitimate, standard hardware. We do not support or offer cheats or illegal mods, including anti-recoil and auto-aiming. And we welcome organizer inspections.
They then doubled down with an offer to prove their case:
For any CDL pros interested in our controllers, our team is more than happy to provide sample units and complete technical transparency. Please feel free to DM us to choose from two 8K controllers: the Tarantula Pro 8K PC with a symmetrical layout, or the G7 Pro 8K PC for an asymmetrical XBOX layout, depending on your preference.
I’ve been hands-on with the G7 Pro countless times and absolutely love it. It’s a customizable, professional controller that feels comfortable in the hand, and GameSir’s collaborative lineup comes with many branded, crossover controllers and swappable faceplates.
They wrapped the statement with: ‘Integrity is and always will be our top priority.’
Many people were quick to point out things that might constitute cheating in a professional gaming space. For instance, some GameSir controllers feature a turbo mode that can make semi-auto weapons feel like full auto. Also, some controllers can have macros saved to them to enable player-set features and inputs, which almost ‘automate’ some actions.
