‘It Will Completely Wash The Year’: OpTic’s Shotzzy on Winning Champs

OpTic Texas has forced another team down into the lower bracket at the Call of Duty League Championship, this time pushing out Toronto Ultra, this year’s hosting team. It was a match that was over in the blink of an eye, with OpTic sweeping out Toronto Ultra, maintaining a smile while doing so.

I caught up with OpTic Texas’ Anthony ‘Shotzzy’ Cuevas-Castro to learn about potentially going back-to-back and what it would mean to win Champs.

‘A Tough Year’

OpTic Texas had a tough year, going on a monumental losing streak, suffering under the weight of a ‘curse’, and scraping qualification to COD Champs. Things are on the up, and the team has just made the winner’s final at the Call of Duty League Championship, and I caught up with Shotzzy to run a little retrospective.

We specifically touched on the multiple roster changes OpTic Texas has made this season:

Like you said, the roster changes… It has really been a tough year, I feel like every roster I’ve been with, I haven’t been able to find my groove. It’s kind of tough player with that different flex every single stage.

Shotzzy then went on to highlight how important strong chemistry is for a team, which was a question I threw to him based on the laughs and jokes shared amongst the team as they pieced apart Toronto Ultra.

Whenever you’re just able to have fun and just game and be confident, I feel like it’s the best thing, that’s what we continue doing.

We finally turned to the very real potential that OpTic Texas could be the first team to go back-to-back at Champs in COD esports history. I asked what that would mean:

It’ll mean a lot, especially because of how the season went. It was a grueller, the first stage until now, it has been one hell of a season, I feel like if we were able to win this one it would completely wash the first year.

OpTic Texas will now take on Boston Breach in a surprising winner’s final. Let me know on the Insider Gaming forum who you think will take the win.
