The seemingly impossible just happened at COD Champs in Canada – the LA Thieves were eliminated from the tournament after losing two matches back to back. First, Boston Breach sent LAT packing into the lower bracket, and then Vancouver Surge cast a harsh sweep against the tournament favourite to eliminate them from the entire event.
I caught up with Vancouver Surge’s Neptune and 04 after the match to see what their outlook is for the lower bracket ahead and how they feel about getting their get back after a 0 – 6 record against LAT this season.
‘Every Day, Every Match’
Vancouver Surge performed remarkably well against a somewhat vulnerable LA Thieves, taking them after a loss and casting them out of the running for the Call of Duty League Championship. This makes LA Thieves the first team to be eliminated from this year’s COD Champs.
I caught up with Jovan “04” Rodriguez and Travis ‘Neptune’ McCloud after the match. I mentioned that no team has ever lost their opening match (which Vancouver Surge did) and gone on to win COD Champs. Here’s what 04 said:
We’re breaking that curse. Every day, every match, we’re putting in extra work, like we did for this match specifically, and we just execute.
Neptune also answered the question:
Exactly what he said – even though it hasn’t been done before, I 100% believe we have the capabilities to do it, and we just have to show up and play our game.
Vancouver Surge will face either Boston Breach or Miami Heretics next in the lower bracket. How far do you think they’ll take it? Let me know on the Insider Gaming forum.
