Does Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Zombies Have the Original Crew?—Playable Characters Explained

One of the reasons people fell in love with Call of Duty Zombies was the original crew of Richtofen, Dempsey, Takeo, and Nikolai.

These four characters have had their fair share of interesting adventures, to say the least, between fighting the undead and various versions of themselves encountering various problems.

With that said, will the original crew return in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Zombies?

Yes, Richtofen, Dempsey, Takeo, and Nikolai are all returning as playable characters in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, but they will be different versions of these characters we have not seen before.

In the teaser trailer and blog post for the upcoming Ashes of the Damned map, the team you played as in Black Ops 6 Zombies are all teleported to a new place, with the original characters soon walking in and welcoming them to the “party.” Then a new antagonist character appears and seemingly steals pieces of all eight characters’ souls before leaving them with a horde of zombies to fight.

While the full Zombies reveal hasn’t been shown as of this writing, we can expect our weakened (and much paler) “heroes” will all team up to get those soul fragments back from whoever this new threat is.

Are These the Same Original Crew Members in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Zombies?

While the names and personalities of the original Zombies crew are likely to be quite familiar to long-time fans, these versions of Richtofen, Dempsey, Takeo, and Nikolai are completely different than the ones we’ve seen before. The versions everyone knows from the older days were killed and erased at the end of Black Ops Cold War.

One thing that is most notable about the original Zombies characters this time around is that they are all from different time periods, and seemingly, timelines. In past iterations, Richtofen was either experimenting on Takeo, Dempsey, or Nikolai after capturing them in World War II or using them when they all arrived to capture him in a different timeline. Here is a short breakdown of their stories this time, which are all quite different.

  • Tank Dempsey – A wild card soldier who fought through the Vietnam War in 1968.
  • Takeo Masaki – An exiled ronin soldier from 1591 seeking redemption.
  • Nikolai Belinski – Soviet tank commander taken from a 1984 battle in Afghanistan.
  • Edward Richtofen – A “hero of the Reich” in a 1945 world where the Germans won World War II.

How are you feeling about the new iterations of the original Black Ops Zombies crew? Let us know in the comments or on the Insider Gaming forum.

Earlier this year, we reported that there are six planned maps for Black Ops 7 Zombies. There is also a tease at a possible Tranzit return.
