Black Ops 7 Will Have No Default Tac-Sprint, and Omnimovement Has Been ‘Refined’

Call of Duty’s NEXT showcase revealed that Black Ops 7 is all about the movement. It’s a fast-paced, near-future title that accommodates rapid movement and diverse maps, keeping the action flowing at a speedier pace than some might be able to handle.

Despite that, the Tac-Sprint mechanic has been disabled by default, and instead, all players will have a higher base movement speed. Tac-Sprint can be added to the game via a perk, along with the other movement-based perks that can be combined to produce blistering speed and motion capabilities.

Movement is King in Black Ops 7

In the Call of Duty NEXT breakdown, we saw players exploring the new Omnimovement mechanics in real-time, including the new ‘Wall Jump’ feature and the multi-directional diving, sliding, and sprinting introduced in 2024’s Black Ops 6.

In a blog post on the Call of Duty site, we got a breakdown of how Wall Jump, one of the most critical movement features in Black Ops 7, will work:

Operators can now Wall Jump to propel over gaps and help reach higher surfaces. Players can chain Wall Jumps up to three times in a row, with each jump shortening the momentum and distance traveled. Certain maps feature deadly drops where Operators will need to wall jump to make it safely across, adding a new element of danger to the environment.

Some returning perks will further boost the movement mechanics in Black Ops 7, including:

  • Dexterity
  • Gung Ho
  • Lightweight

Treyarch has emphasized that the Omnimovement ecosystem introduced in last year’s Call of Duty title has been refined, which may be great news for those who struggled to get to grips with it. I spent my entire time in Black Ops 6 with Omnimovement mostly turned off. I don’t think I ever dived in Black Ops 6 and relied exclusively on sliding, a familiar mechanic.

Are you happy to hear that movement is a central focus in Black Ops 7, or do you typically prioritize something else? Let me know on the Insider Gaming Discord server.
