Amid continued changes at the studio and to the game’s direction, Assassin’s Creed Hexe game director Benoit Richer has left Ubisoft.
Richer announced the news on his LinkedIn over the weekend, revealing that he was moving to an indie studio.
“This is the beginning of a new chapter: I’m joining Servo Games as Game Director!” he said. “An indie studio of industry veterans, aligned around a shared vision of the industry and experience creation, with a strong complementary skill set.”
Richer had been a game director for Ubisoft since 2017. Prior to that, he spent seven years at Warner Bros. Games as a game director.
The news of Richer’s departure came at the same time Ubisoft decided to scale back the team working on Assassin’s Creed Hexe. Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson reports that roughly 50 developers were taken off the project and moved to Ubisoft’s interproject team.
“According to sources familiar with the matter, members of the Interproject team are required to secure a project at Ubisoft within a three-month period, or they could face redundancy,” Henderson’s report reads.
As of writing, Assassin’s Creed Hexe is planned for a June 2027 release. However, knowing Ubisoft’s tendency to change things at the drop of a dime, that date could always change.
