Activision has pursued legal avenues to go after one of Call of Duty’s most notorious leakers. In a post on social media, The Ghost of Hope revealed a demand sent by Activision to halt ‘leaking and disseminating confidential information related to Call of Duty’.
For years, The Ghost of Hope has drip-fed his following with critical information about past, present, and future Call of Duty titles, amongst other things. In the post on socials, Hope confirmed he’d ‘stick around and chat’ about Call of Duty, but under the threat of legal action, the leaks are no more.
Destroying Expectations
Call of Duty’s social team was called out after The Ghost of Hope was targeted in a legal pursuit pioneered by Activision’s lawyers. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Hope wrote:
Activision has legally demanded that I stop leaking and disseminating confidential information related to Call of Duty/Activision and I am complying with their demands. Still gonna stick around and chat about Official Call of Duty info and anything not related to leaks/confidential information. Cheers for these past few years.
A major creator, TDAWG, posted a question concerning the situation. He asked if this means Hope was ‘right about everything’, which is why Activision had taken action, but the official Call of Duty channel swiftly responded:
Nah. Even when leaks are wrong, they still hurt the people building the game and mess with player expectations.
The consensus under Call of Duty’s post was mostly against the developer. Many demanded more transparency, while others suggested that Activision is the one hurting player expectations by releasing content different from marketing materials or by stuffing games with gaudy, inane skins after promising grounded, authentic content.
