A recent report indicates that Sir Ben Kingsley has been cast in a significant role in “Sonic the Hedgehog 4.”
According to Jeff Sneider’s report, the specifics of Kingsley’s role have not yet been disclosed. Still, if true, he is set to be joining a star-studded cast that includes Jim Carrey, Ben Schwartz, James Marsden, and others. Most recently, it was announced that Amy Rose will be voiced by Kristen Bell.
Previous Sonic films featured Idris Elba as the voice of Knuckles the Echidna, likely to return. Also, Keanu Reeves was featured as the voice of Shadow the Hedgehog in the third film.
What Could Be Next for the Sonic Movie Franchise
The third Sonic movie largely centered around the plot of Sonic Adventure 2 and the introduction of Shadow the Hedgehog. At the end of the film, there was a teaser that included Amy Rose. Sega first introduced Rose in Sonic CD, a Sega CD game released in 1993. The villain of that game was Metal Sonic.
A plot point in Sonic CD was time travel, which is what the films have done in a way by introducing Shadow before Amy. It is possible that the next film could draw on plot points from Sonic CD and mesh them with other plot points in Sonic’s history. However, a full film synopsis remains to be released.
Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is scheduled for release on March 19, 2027. Insider Gaming will continue to provide details on the film’s cast and plot as more information becomes available.
Recently, Sega announced plans to adapt other classic games into animated projects. Franchises teased include Streets of Rage and OutRun. Learn more about what to expect in the near future from Sega at this link.
