Nintendo Shuts Down Another Popular Switch Emulator

Nintendo has taken down another popular Nintendo Switch emulator as its war on emulation continues on all fronts. According to the social media accounts for the platform, the Ryujinx emulator has been shut down after the developer was “offered an agreement” by Nintendo.

“Yesterday, gdkchan was contacted by Nintendo and offered an agreement to stop working on the project, remove the organization and all related assets he’s in control of,” developer riperiperi said in the software’s Discord server. “While awaiting confirmation on whether he would take this agreement, the organization has been removed, so I think it’s safe to say what the outcome is. Rather than leave you with only panic and speculation, I decided to write this short message to give some closure.”

As of writing, all of the emulators files have been removed from GitHub, the download page on the Ryujinx website is empty, and there are no more official updates coming to the software.

Ryujinx shutting down is the latest in a long line of Nintendo going after emulators and emulation in general. Earlier this year they had Switch emulator Yuzu shut down. They also have multiple lawsuits going regarding emulation and piracy.

Insider Gaming has reached out to Nintendo for comment.
