LEC Spring Week 4 Preview: Can Vitality Solidify Their Lead?

The LEC Spring Split reaches the halfway point of the regular season this weekend with the Spring Playoffs and possible MSI qualification on the horizon.

There’s also the opportunity to qualify for the Esports World Cup, with LFL teams Galions and Solary joining the LEC teams in the LoL Esports World Cup EMEA Qualifier.

Currently, it’s difficult to read too much into the LEC standings, with the format leading to teams having played an uneven number of games.

Still, crossing into the second half of the split with Roadtrips in France and Spain coming up, LEC Spring Week 4 is going to be a pivotal moment of the season leading into the Playoffs.

LEC Spring Week 4 — Saturday, April 18

GIANTX vs NAVI

G2 vs SK

Saturday’s games look like a very fun way to start the gameweek.

First up, GIANTX versus Natus Vincere (NAVI) will be a very interesting battle between two of the top teams in the current standings.

GIANTX remain undefeated this split, while NAVI’s only loss came at the hands of current league leaders Team Vitality.

NAVI have shown tremendous talent this year, but recently have struggled to close out games, which could cost them dearly against a very silent GIANTX team.

We’ve seen GIANTX’s Oh ‘Noah’ Hyeon-taek pop off in the late game and turn matches around before.

Then SK Gaming will try to cause a major upset, with G2 legends Martin ‘Wunder’ Hansen and Mihael ‘Mikyx’ Mehle hoping to take down their former team.

SK have struggled massively this year, especially midlaner Adam ‘LIDER’ Ilyasov who Mikyx ironically bigged up as the answer to Rasmus ‘Caps’ Winther.

This should be a clean sweep for G2 in theory, but SK botlaner Josip ‘Jopa’ Čančar, who earned his second penta kill of the year last week, has the ability to help cause an upset.

Vitality vs GIANTX

Heretics vs MKOI

GIANTX’s undefeated streak is really getting tested this week, as the day after the NAVI game, they will have to take on first-place Team Vitality.

Vitality has been in incredible form this split and extremely fun to watch in their five-series win streak following their opening day loss to Karmine Corp.

This match will be a real test of the longevity of Vitality’s form, but individually, they have the quality to be favoured.

The next match is also spicy with the Team Heretics debut of talented jungler Kacper ‘Daglas’ Dagiel after Théo ‘Sheo’ Borile benched himself from the LEC roster.

Heretics had shown some promise in LEC Versus but have been abysmal in Spring, suffering five consecutive defeats. Now the team has undergone multiple roster changes and looks very messy from the outside looking in.

Movistar KOI have had some mixed form too, currently sitting 2-2 in the rankings. But with their talented roster, they’ll be expected to pick things up for the second half of the regular season.

Daglas has the ability to take over the game, but will face an uphill struggle against Javier ‘Elyoya’ Prades. MKOI will likely punish Heretics’ disjointed gameplay and win the series as long as they don’t make silly mistakes, as they sometimes do.

LEC Spring Week 4 — Monday, April 20

Shifters vs G2

SK vs KCorp

Closing out Gameweek 4 is the possibility of some upsets with two matches that should be one-sided on paper.

Despite their First Stand heroics, reigning LEC champions G2 have had a slow start to the Spring Split.

The team is likely still recovering from the busier schedule, sitting in sixth with a 1-2 record.

Meanwhile, Shifters are yet to win a series this split and have only won one game out of seven. Yet, that win came against Vitality of all teams last week, showing the roster is capable of much more than they’ve shown.

Then the struggling SK will take on LEC Versus finalists Karmine Corp, who are undefeated this split.

However, KCorp had Week 2 off and have only played two series in Spring: a brutal 2-0 stomp of Heretics and a big win over Vitality that realistically, Vitality should have won 2-0 if not for mistakes.

This KCorp team has an incredibly high ceiling and should have too much for SK. KCorp toplaner Kim ‘Canna’ Chang-dong shutting down Wunder will likely be key to their success.

Meanwhile, in the LCK, T1 are continuing to struggle after throwing against Dplus Kia despite Ryu ‘Keria’ Min-seok’s incredible Pyka performance.
