Escape from Tarkov Devs Make Change to Disrupt Game’s Meta

Battlestate Games has today pushed out a new update for Escape from Tarkov. This change isn’t a major one, but it’s designed to alter the game’s meta and push players towards using attachments and weapons that they usually wouldn’t. That has become a key talking point in social circles in the hours since the update landed.

For instance, the team has adjusted the stats of most muzzle devices, magazines, grips, and buttstocks to ‘bridge the gap’ between the meta, always-used items, and the rarely used attachments.

Latest Escape from Tarkov Change Makes Waves

Avid Escape from Tarkov fans have spent hours poring over the changes made in the popular extraction shooter, after Battlestate Games tweaked the game’s meta. Today, the game’s 1.0.2.5 patch was released, speeding up matchmaking, adding DLSS 4.5, and most importantly, changing how weapons and their attachments feel and handle.

For example, flash hiders and muzzle brakes now reduce recoil much more effectively, making them a more viable pick over suppressors, which boast a smaller effect on recoil. It’s now a more deliberate choice between the stealth of a suppressor and the recoil-dampening of a compensator.

Larger-capacity magazines have had their ‘ergo’ impact reduced, and it’s faster to check them, making them much more viable. Elsewhere, pistol grips, front grips, and buttstocks have all had their stat gaps narrowed, which means there are no super stand-out choices amongst an average crowd.

That doesn’t mean that typical late-game items that you get your hands on further down the line are worse; they’re just more closely matched with the bulk of what’s on offer.

Battlestate wrote:

We believe this will allow players to make builds based on visual preference among other things, eliminating the established flow of “good” and “bad” attachments.

This will hopefully push players away from all running the same attachments and builds, and give them more freedom to make fun weapon builds that look cool and don’t just perform well.
