2K Sports is starting the hype machine for the upcoming release of NBA 2K26. The developers of the annual game have released their reveal roadmap for the upcoming game, starting with NBA 2K26 gameplay at the end of July.
Starting the week of July 28, NBA 2K26 will see weekly deep dives into the updates, additions, and features across the game. Each week sees a different topic covered from gameplay to MyPlayer to MyCareer to The City and beyond.
After gameplay, the week of August 4 will be all about the NBA 2K26 MyPlayer Builder and what updates players should expect. That’s followed by MyTeam for the week of August 11.
The week of August 18 moves to MyCareer that includes a new “Out of Bounds” story.
“NBA 2K26’s immersive MyCareer prelude story takes players where they’ve never gone before in Out of Bounds,” 2K Sports says. “Watch your draft stock rise as you outshine your opponents. But there are now more consequences to your story games and choices. If you don’t complete all the objectives in a game, your agent might not be able to secure the best opportunities for you.”
In addition to the “Out of Bounds” story, MyCareer has you go through the draft process and will see you drafted based on your performance and team fit.
Also coming that same week will be the deep dive into MyNBA, the game’s franchise mode.
“Take command of an NBA franchise as a General Manager in MyGM and import custom rosters and draft classes to fine tune your preferences in the new Unranked MyGM option,” 2K said. “Enjoy further customization and explore endless possibilities in this role-playing sandbox mode.”
One of those features include dynamic banners that will see championship banners in the rafters as you win them during your career.
Lastly, The City takes center stage for the week of August 25.
The City, available exclusively for generation 9 systems like PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and, now, Nintendo Switch, is seeing updates to make it “even more intimate and accessible than its predecessor”. Also coming is an update to The Park, which the developers say is getting a makeover this year.
“Soak in all of the urban beauty in NBA 2K26’s new Park designs, which are focused on more natural and grounded scenery, like courts that you might find in the real-world, based on community feedback,” they said. “Plus, new lighting improvements and a fixed time-of-day will reduce harsh shade and sunlight.”
NBA 2K26 launches on August 26 for those who buy the $100 Superstar Edition or $150 Leave No Doubt edition of the game. Those with the Standard or WNBA Editions will get the game a week later on September 5.
