Assassin’s Creed Live-Action Series Ordered By Netflix

A live-action series based on Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed franchise has been ordered by Netflix.

First reported by Variety, this new series will be led by Roberto Patino and David Wiener as showrunners and executive producers. It also comes almost five years since the series officially started development.

In a press release on the news, Patino and Wiener say they’ve been fans of the series since the first game in 2007. They said they are both “excited and humbled by the possibilities that Assassin’s Creed” has.

“Beneath the scope, the spectacle, the parkour and the thrills is a baseline for the most essential kind of human story — about people searching for purpose, struggling with questions of identity and destiny and faith,” they said.

Of the new series moving forward, Margaret Boykin of Ubisoft Film & Television said that they “look forward to delivering an experience that speaks to the heart of what fans love about ‘Assassin’s Creed,’ while introducing its unforgettable worlds and timeless themes to new audiences worldwide.”

While there’s not a lot of detail regarding the show, it will be “centered on the secret war between two shadowy factions — one set on determining mankind’s future through control and manipulation, while the other fights to preserve free will. The series follows its characters across pivotal historical events as they battle to shape humanity’s destiny.”

Assassin’s Creed will be the first live-action production for Netflix of an Ubisoft property. The other productions, like Rabbids Invasion and the upcoming Splinter Cell: Deathwatch, are animated.

As far as a release date is concerned, that information wasn’t revealed.
