It has been reported that 2K is preparing an announcement regarding the BioShock franchise, which has stood relatively silent for more than a decade. It was claimed that the impending announcement will land before the ‘end of summer’ and it’ll feature Rapture, the underwater kingdom built and run by Andrew Ryan and the iconic setting of the first game, released in 2007.
The report made it clear that no details about the announcement could be found aside from the suggestion that it could be a remake or a remaster of the original BioShock title.
Under Da Sea
In a report published by Kurakasis on MP1st, it was claimed that 2K is preparing to reveal something related to BioShock before the end of the summer; we just don’t know what that something is. The report said it was a possibility that it could be a remake or a remaster of the first game, as the reveal is supposedly set to feature Rapture.
For those not in the know, Rapture is the name of a sprawling underwater city which serves as the setting for the first and second BioShock games, released in 2007 and 2010.
The report featured a fair wedge of conjecture, with Kurakasis, who has been known to obtain information from domain registry and trademark filings, suggesting:
We don’t know what the announcement will be about. It could be the reveal of initial details about one of the projects announced several years ago, such as BioShock 4 or the upcoming Netflix movie.
In May 2023, it was revealed that BioShock 4’s development had entered a state of ‘hell’, but that news was followed months later with the revelation that the studio piecing the game together was hiring for 30 new positions.
