Epic Games’ Chief People Officer Gone From Company

Monika Fahlbusch has parted ways with Epic Games. Labeled the “Chief People Officer,” Fahlbusch was with the company for just over 5 years, starting in December 2020. According to a new report, Epic has confirmed her departure.

As a top executive in the HR department, Fahlbusch reportedly played a role in the latest round of cuts, which saw the Fortnite publisher lay off more than 1,000 people in the latter half of March 2026. In the wake of the cuts, Fahlbusch sent a letter to the North Carolina Department of Commerce where she stated on behalf of the company, “We are mindful of the difficulties that this layoff poses to employees and the community.”

Epic Games Confirms Departure of HR Exec Monika Fahlbusch

According to a Kotaku report, Epic Games confirmed that Monika Fahlbusch’s last day with the company was April 15. However, the company ultimately declined to elaborate on the reason she was exiting her role.

Her previous work experience before joining Epic included two years in a similar role for JUUL Labs. Experience notes that she has over 30 years of experience leading “People functions.” Her additional experience includes roles at Salesforce and BMC Software.

More on the Recent Epic Layoffs

When Epic Games announced it was laying off more than 1,000 employees in March 2026, the difficult decision was blamed on lower-than-expected engagement in Fortnite and other areas of the games business. Unfortunately, one of the individuals laid off was programmer-writer Mike Prinke, an individual battling terminal brain cancer.

Following the cuts, his wife shared on social media that they were concerned about him losing the life insurance he received as an employee benefit at Epic. In the wake of that, Epic CEO Tim Sweeney issued a statement apologizing for not recognizing the situation in advance and claimed that Prinke’s medical issue was not a factor in the decision to lay him off. Learn more about that at this link.
