Techland has just announced a major update for Dying Light: The Beast, revealing that the French-spoken version of the game will feature a different voice actor for Kyle Crane, the title’s protagonist.
In a post on social media, the team confirmed that Benoit DuPac, the voice actor behind the French version of Kyle Crane in 2015’s Dying Light, will not be reprising the role in this year’s release of Dying Light: The Beast.
‘It Best Serves The Game’
The post on social media (translated from French) reads:
Kyle Crane is a changed man in the next Dying Light adventure we’re planning for Summer 2025. This title reflects Kyle Crane’s journey: bolder, stronger, battle-hardened, and ready to face the greatest challenge of his life.
To stay true to our vision, we’ve made the difficult decision to invite a new actor to voice Kyle Crane in Dying Light: The Best. This decision was long-considered and not easy; nevertheless, we are confident it best serves the game and Kyle Crane’s legacy. We hope you’ll see it for yourself with us when the game launches.
We are extremely grateful to Benoit DuPac, who portrayed Kyle Crane in the first game, for everything he brought to the character. We deeply appreciate the passion, talent, and dedication he dedicated to this role, and we are grateful that we will forever remain an important part of the Dying Light adventure.
For the English-speaking fans, nothing changes. The role of Kyle Crane will still be played by Roger Craig Smith, the original actor behind the character that was introduced in 2015’s Dying Light.
It hasn’t been explained why DuPac has been retired from the role, but given that it has been more than a decade since he stepped into the booth to voice the character, it’s perfectly within reason to assume that his vocal talents might have evolved or his palette might have changed.
