Video game hardware sales continued their fall in the United States(US) for April 2025, falling for a fourth straight month. According to the latest data from Circana, hardware sales fell by 8% year-over-year, a 17% improvement over the 25% it fell in March.
Per the data, sales fell from $203 million(M) to $186M. The drop became the lowest monthly spending total on video game hardware since July 2020 saw $163M in spending. The drop off also brought the total spending for 2025 down 28% year-over-year.
When looking at specific platforms, PlayStation remained the best-selling console in terms of both units moved and dollar sales. That said, it still fell 5% in April.

Nintendo’s numbers fell another 37%, but it’s expected that April and May will be the final months of Nintendo trailing behind. With the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5, the company should see both units sold and dollars sold rise substantially throughout the the rest of the year.
Lastly, for Xbox hardware, they saw their sales in terms of dollars grow 8% for the month.
Moving on to accessories, they saw a 2% drop in April down to $166M. According to Circana, accessory sales have fallen 13% in year-to-date spending.
