2K And FIFA Came Close To Agreement On Game Before Talks Broke Down—REPORT

How close did FIFA and 2K come to signing a deal for a brand-new simulation soccer game? According to a new report, the ball was nearly over the goal line.

According to Sports Gamers Online (SGO), talks between FIFA and 2K “progressed to the point where both sides were negotiating contract terms, licensing agreements, and potential game modes.”

SGO sources claim that 2K was looking for a 10-year licensing deal that includes rights to the FIFA World Cup along with the FIFPRO license for clubs and players. Modes pitched included an ownership mode that would be a “lighter version of Football Manager”.

What Happened With The Deal?

Talks eventually broke down due to FIFA’s desire for “faster, more profitable opportunities.” FIFA wanted to capitalize, per the report, on the World Cup, which included the new FIFA World Cup: Launch Edition with Netflix.

A possible FIFA 2K game has been known about for quite some time, with talks dating back a few years. Work had even begun on assembling a team to develop a game to compete with the likes of EA Sports FC.

As with any rumor, please take this news with a grain of salt unless confirmed by the parties or Insider Gaming can corroborate with our own sources.
