Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Director Says Streaming RPGs is a ‘Bit of a Crisis’

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation director recently discussed how streaming games like their RPG can be a problem for the developers.

It has already been a few days since the highly anticipated final installment of the remake trilogy was revealed, and players have already begun raising all sorts of questions. We have already been informed about cut content, and now the director has addressed how streaming their title can be an issue.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Director Discusses the Problem with Streaming Games

In a recent interview with 4Gamer (via Automaton), Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, addressed the challenges of streaming RPGs. He explained that this issue can be particularly problematic for an RPG like theirs, as players might feel satisfied simply by watching it stream, leading them to miss out on actually playing it themselves. He explains that “This is a bit of a crisis for the work itself, or rather, it’s not something game creators can wholeheartedly celebrate.”

Hamaguchi clarified his stance on streaming, emphasizing that he does not dismiss its value. He discussed the challenge of video games being perceived primarily as stories to be enjoyed by watching rather than playing. He added, “if people watch a stream and it makes them think What would I do in that situation? or How would I experiment with that?, then hopefully they’ll be inspired to try it themselves.” Hamaguchi also discussed adapting to changing times, which he has been trying to do across all 3 installments of the series.

In other news, Square Enix has announced a brand new HD-2D Final Fantasy game. Additionally, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation director has revealed that the game does have choices, but will feature a ‘singular ending’.
