You Can Recruit Expired Trial Mons in Pokémon Champions

Pokémon Champions has been out for a week now, and players have discovered that taking Pokémon on trial through the game’s built-in recruitment feature might be better than they first expected.

To make VGC and competitive Pokémon more beginner-friendly, Pokémon Champions players can recruit Mons within the game through a gacha-esque system.

Players get one free recruitment every day, choosing to recruit one Pokémon from a randomised line-up.

Without training tickets, it costs a rather steep 2,500 Victory Points (VP) to permanently recruit a Pokémon in this way.

However, players also have the free option to take a Pokémon on a seven-day trial and, surprisingly, they won’t lose that Pokémon following that trial period.

Use The Trial Feature In Pokémon Champions

You would expect that once a trial expires, players would lose the recruited Pokémon and it would disappear from their in-game box.

However, it will instead remain in the box, but with the sand timer icon becoming red.

This means that the expired trial Pokémon cannot be taken into matches, but it can still be added to teams as a placeholder.

And players will still have the option to permanently recruit that Pokémon at a later date for 2,500 VP or a Teammate Ticket.

This is great news for free-to-play players, especially as this allows them to save up crucial VP and wait until they have more of the currency or have a line-up that works for that Pokémon.

And there’s no need to worry about box space being eaten up by unwanted trial Pokémon that players were forced to pick through poor recruitment line-ups.

The only real issue with the trial feature is that trial Pokémon cannot be trained to have different stats or move pools which is frustrating but understandable so that new players don’t waste VP on Pokémon they don’t own.

At any time, a Pokémon can be released from the Pokémon Champions box by going to the “Return Pokémon” option in the Recruit menu.

There, players can select multiple Pokémon at once to remove from their game and free up box space.
