New backend data reveals that Xbox is testing monthly time allowances for Cloud Gaming on the rumored first-party Game Pass tier.
For those unaware, a report from last month stated that a new Game Pass tier, codename TRITON, is being tested and will only include first-party games from Xbox Studios, including franchises like Doom, Halo, Fallout, and more. Now, the latest findings discuss some restrictions for Cloud Gaming included in this tier.
Xbox Could Get Monthly Time Allowances for Select Cloud Gaming Tiers
According to a recent post by redphx on X (formerly Twitter), WindowsCentral has reported that Xbox’s rumored first-party Game Pass tier, TRITON, along with another speculated tier called Duet, which is expected to be a bundle with Netflix, will include support for Xbox Cloud Gaming. However, there is a caveat: Cloud Gaming on these tiers will have certain restrictions, and players will need to follow a monthly time limit. This means Cloud Gaming will stop working once players reach a designated monthly limit of hours.
It’s not uncommon for Cloud Gaming services to feature monthly limits, with Nvidia GeForce Now’s highest limit offering only 100 hours of playtime per month. However, it is new for Xbox, as none of their tiers have ever had monthly allowances for cloud gaming.
Regarding Cloud Gaming, Xbox reportedly plans to launch an ad-supported tier in 2026. This model will also include time limits, where players can enjoy a specific number of hours of gameplay based on the number of ads they have watched. Furthermore, players might only be able to access Xbox games they have purchased digitally, with no access to Game Pass titles.
In other news, the runtime of the upcoming Gears of War: E-Day presentation has been revealed by the Xbox COO. Additionally, a claim states that Xbox is having internal discussions about its games and the concept of first-party exclusives.
